Dr Dan Nightingale is a Senior Consultant in Dementia, Learning Disabilities and Psychotherapy. He is the Founder of dementiadoctor.co.uk, which is based in Leicestershire but a provider to the UK, rest of Europe and the USA.
On 15th September, 2009, he was awarded a Finalist Certificate by Professor June Andrews for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Dementia in the UK Dementia Care Awards
He is head of the Faculty of Dementia at the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy and specialist tutor at the National College, www.hypnotherapyuk.netand was one of the Consultants during the All Party Political Group Inquiry into the use of antipsychotic medicines in nursing and care homes at Westminster; works alongside the National Alzheimer's Society, www.alzheimers.org.uk and teaches 1st year Doctoral Psychology students at the University of Liverpool; is occasionally asked to speak on radio and has been known to do the odd phone-in on dementia! He is available as a Conference Speaker at Dementia Congresses and is an interesting after dinner speaker in Dementia related areas.
In addition, he collaborates with other professionals on research into the use of hypnosis for people living with dementia. This work has led to 3 publications, 2 in Europe and 1 in America. In addition, the work has been recognised around the world and been broadcast on the World Service.
His recent achievement is the Nightingale Model of Enriched Care is available at www.sjbassociates.org.uk where he is their advisor on dementia related issues and he has recently completed a Pilot Project on the use of Montessori in Dementia Care. This paper is soon to be published in the Journal of Dementia Care.
He has been awarded the European Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis in recognition of his works in the field of dementia.
