Dr Nightingale is a Senior Consultant in Dementia specialising in Psychotherapy and is one of the most sought after speakers in his field; he is widely respected in the field and has a reputation for providing excellent training to services for older people, those with a mental health challenge, adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and those with a learning disability.
Dr Nightingale is able to tailor individual courses and workshops all of which are student focused and involve
group work activities and feedback sessions. He is also able to facilitate assessment programmes to assist managers to implement skills for care standards.
Dementia awareness Level 1 (Alzheimer’s disease and Other Dementias):
This is for those with no knowledge of the subject. It covers types, diagnostics, assessments, processes and
presentations.
Dementia awareness level 2 (Care and Support of People with Dementia):
This includes a clinical overview but its emphasis is on caring for people with dementia in the nursing and residential setting. Areas covered include supporting people whose behaviour challenges the service; providing therapy; challenging depression and motivating people to carry out appropriate activities.

Care and support of adults with a dual diagnosis:
Mental health awareness training course aimed at supporting those in residential care who have both an intellectual disability and mental illness
Behaviour That Challenges Services:
This offers students the opportunity to learn about assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating positive, non-aversive intervention strategies that will enhance the quality of life of residents. Also covered is the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommended de-escalation tactics (theory). Whilst emphasis is placed on being proactive, reactive measures are also taught and can be developed and provided in response to service need.
Alzheimer’s disease and Other Dementias:
This course covers the topic in general terms and is relevant to those people who have little knowledge of dementia.
Mental Health Awareness:
This course is designed to equip members of the direct care team with additional knowledge, skills, competencies and techniques which will enable each care worker to have a better understanding of the increased risk factors of an adult with intellectual disabilities developing a mental health problem.
This course will also enable each care worker to identify early signs of a possible mental health problem and be proactive in helping to develop the correct care interventions along with other health care professionals.
Autistic Spectrum Disorders Level 1:
Nature and definition of Autism, a brief history of Autism, the triad of impairments. This course also details Autism and behaviour and philosophies of care and management strategies
Autistic Spectrum Disorders Level 2:
This course is designed to equip members of the direct care team with additional knowledge, skills, competencies and techniques which will enable each care worker to have a better understanding of the lived experience of people with an ASD. It will enable each care worker to employ person centred care strategies which will further enhance the quality of life of people with an ASD (Students must have completed ASD Level 1 prior to attending this course).
Supporting people with learning disabilities and dementia:
This course is aimed at residential support staff that are supporting people with a diagnosis of one of the dementias. It looks at practical ways of support, including environmental issues and relevant memory strategies
Supporting Adults with Multi-sensory Impairments:
This considers various types of impairments, environmental factors, intervention strategies and a checklist to help identify eye problems
Sex and Sexuality Awareness:
This explores the value of relationships, both platonic and intimate, considers abuse issues and offers practical ways in which to assist people to establish and enjoy valued relationships
People with a Learning Disability/Dementia and their Behaviour:
This is an excellent course for staff who may find it difficult supporting people whose behaviours challenge the
sevices provided by mainstream residential and nursing home enviroments.
Practical Support of People with Dementia Living in Residential and Nursing Homes:
This is a practical based course aimed at those supporting people with dementia in a care setting.
FEES:
Each course costs £475 per day + travelling expenses at 40p per mile. In the unlikely event that
overnight accommodation is required, this will be arranged by the client.
Maximum of 20 people are accepted onto each course. Courses start promptly at 9.30am and normally run until 4.30pm with 2 X 15 minute breaks and 1 hour for lunch written in to the programme.
The minimum duration of a course is 1 day.
Please note that all training is facilitated at a venue arranged by you and your team. This could be in the home.
You will need to provide a flip chart , TV/DVD or/and TV/VCR and a power point projector (these can be provided by dementiadoctor at the additional cost of £15 per item – please book this when arranging training)
A A cancellation fee of 50% of the total invoice will be payable should you cancel training at any time for
any reason.
