My Dreams of Being

HEAR THE VOICE OF DEMENTIA……

My Dreams of Being

is a sensitive story about a gentleman who has dementia and is living in a care environment. This person’s thoughts and feelings have now been carefully brought to life by a powerful recording of the book so that listeners can visualize the various scenarios and empathize with an ordinary person who is living their journey of dementia.

Whether hearing or reading My Dreams of Being you are provided with a brief insight into the behaviour of a person living with dementia plus an understanding of where some of the frustrations come from. Written by a dementia consultant, My Dreams of Being is at times sad and sometimes even a little funny but it is as realistic as possible and therefore extremely thought provoking.

Developed originally to encourage the care sector to help those going through their unique journey of dementia receive a more positive experience from their carers, this story manages to touch people’s hearts whether they are a carer, family member or simply know someone with dementia.

Presented and delivered in a durable box containing a 30 minute audio CD plus a copy of the written story the My Dreams of Being pack costs £20 (+pp) and is only available from www.vitalyz.com

It’s essential that appropriate activities be available for those living with dementia and to help this become a reality, Vitalyz deliver a practical training workshop which includes My Dreams of Being and has been developed with Dr Nightingale.

Here is a review of this resource by a Senior Occupational Therapist:

'Finally I have had my eyes opened. I have spent the past few years working in the field of Dementia care. I would have happily described myself as a “person centred” clinician, however it wasn’t until I listened to this CD that I realized how far away I was from this concept.

Person centered care is a concept that is frequently bounced around in the Care world yet what does it really mean? My Dreams of Being provides a real and captivating account of what it is actually like to experience a condition such as Dementia.  You quickly relate to this gentleman’s story and feel drawn in by his sad yet realistic account of life in care. Never have I found a resource that so cleverly tackles the complexities of this condition.

Providing person centered care is a challenge that faces all care providers and this story brings us one step closer to understanding the harsh reality of Dementia. This is the best resource that I have come across yet and one that I hope will lead in the way in shifting old practices of task orientated nursing to that of true person centered care'.
