Dr Dan Nightingale is a Senior Consultant in Dementia, Learning Disabilities and Psychotherapy and ex Director of Care & Dementia Services at The Priory Group. He is the Founder and CEO of DementiaDoctor (UK) which is based in Leicestershire, England, and Co-Founder and CEO of Dementia Therapy Services (USA) which is based in Arizona. He is a Fellow of the National Society of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
In addition to being a clinician, he has researched the use of hypnosis and is the world leader in the use of hypnosis in dementia care; has researched the use of Montessori Therapy to enhance the dining experience of those living in a care home; is an experienced care and nursing home operator, lecturer, tutor and presenter .
In September, 2009, he was awarded a Finalist Certificate by Professor June Andrews for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Dementia in the UK Dementia Care Awards. In 2010 he was a finalist in the Northern Ireland Independent Care Awards and made it through to the last 5 of the UK Dementia Care Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Dementia. He was once again in the 2011 UK Dementia Care Awards finals for Lifetime Achievement in Dementia Care.
He is Head of the Faculty of Dementia at the National Society of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy and specialist tutor at the National College, www.hypnotherapyuk.netand was one of the Consultants during the All Party Political Group Inquiry into the use of antipsychotic medicines in nursing and care homes at Westminster; is occasionally asked to speak on radio and has been known to do phone-ins on dementia! He is available as a Conference Speaker at Dementia Congresses and is an interesting after dinner speaker in Dementia related areas.
In addition, he collaborates with other professionals on research into the use of hypnosis for people living with dementia. This work has led to 3 publications, 2 in Europe and 1 in America. This work has been recognised around the world and been broadcast on the World Service.

He has recently completed a Pilot Project on the use of Montessori in Dementia Care. This paper was published in the Journal of Dementia Care, March/April 2011, (Vol 19 No 2) pages 36 - 38
He is the Subject Matter Expert in Dementia for Third Force and authored My Dreams of Being, a training resource available at www.revitalyz.com where he is specialist consultant, and is a regular writer for Quality and Care magazine. He has recently become one of the Editors at Agora Publications.
He has been awarded the European Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis in recognition of his works in the field of dementia.
